During our science topic of 'Rocks and Soils', Year 3 were set the challenge of finding the most appropriate rock to use to repair a section of Durham Cathedral.  They set to work investigating different rock types including: slate, granite, sandstone, marble and chalk to check which was the most hardwearing through a scratch test, but also in keeping with the look of the rest of the building.  The children also looked more closely at the samples using a magnifying glass and could see some of the particles that make up the rock.  They were great geologists and loved their role!
