Year 4 Summer Learning Grid

Welcome to our Year 4 Home Learning Page

Home Learning for Year 4- Lessons online, on TV & BBC Sounds

BBC Bitesize are providing new daily lessons in English and Maths online for all ages. These lessons will be backed up by new videos, practice tests, educational games and articles. Regular lessons on other core subjects, including science, will also be available. Parents and carers can get advice on how to teach anyone who is home-schooling, and the Bitesize website will also have guides for pupils with SEN (special educational needs).

BBC Bitesize Online

Home Learning for Year 4

Please find the Online schedule for this week below:

BBC Bitesize Daily (TV programmes)

There will also be new dedicated TV channel full of learning content and you can expect some of it to be delivered by well-known faces. BBC iPlayer and the Red Button service will host Bitesize Daily. These are six different 20-minute shows, each designed to target a specific age group, from ages five to 14, and for pupils throughout the UK. Experts and teachers will be involved, covering what should be learned that day for the different year groups and key stages. Maths, Science and English will be covered in dedicated programmes, and other subjects such as History, Geography, Music and Art will also be covered.

Also watch out for the weekly, age-appropriate 'Book Club' for young learners where books will be read by many famous people. In week one alone we have Strictly stars Oti Mabuse and Diane Buswell, comedian Russell Kane and England rugby player, Maro Itoje.

BBC Sounds

In addition, BBC Sounds is also launching separate podcasts, aimed at either primary or secondary pupils, to support everyone learning at home. The daily shows, each around 10 minutes long, will link with content on Bitesize which supports education and also your other needs, in what is likely to be a confusing and worrying time for many young people as we continue to live in lockdown.

Alongside the BBC Bitesize resources we would like you to access the resources below:

Daily Reading

We would love for our children to continue with their READING for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. To help with this, children can access FREE digital books and news articles from MyON. There are 1000s of different titles including fiction and non-fiction and if you hit the search bar, you can filter these for your child’s year group from Year 1-Year 10. Just go to:

MyON

Daily Maths

We’ve seen some great MATHS work from our children who have been using our recommended maths resource. We are pleased to hear that The White Rose Maths Team are continuing to prepare a series of five maths lessons per week for each year group from EYFS-Year 10 for the summer term. Every lesson comes with a short video showing you clearly and simply how to help your child to complete the activity successfully. In addition to this, White Rose have partnered up with BBC Bitesize so from Week 3 onwards (4th May), the work on Bitesize will support the work you are doing with White Rose Maths.

Mrs Cowan's top tips to stay happy at home

1. Make a plan. My best days have been when I have been organised and set some goals. So, before you go to bed, talk to your grown ups about what you could do the next day. Perhaps make a list and the next morning, you will wake up and know exactly how your day is going to be. You will feel very proud of yourself. 2. Enjoy music. I love music - it can make you dance, make you laugh, make you thankful or make you relaxed and calm. Instead of watching TV, I have started listening to some of my favourite songs and it has really made me feel happy. 3. Have a party night. Curl your hair, gel your hair, wear some make up, body spray, paint your nails, and wear you best clothes (before you grow out of them) or a fancy dress costume! Pretend you are going to a party then call your friends or someone in your family. Getting dressed up and speaking to my best friends every week has really made me smile and laugh during lockdown.

1. I love being outdoors and I am trying to be more confident riding my bike. I find the up hills not too bad but going downhill is still a bit scary. 2. Learning to play some simple tunes on the piano. 3. Finding new ways to keep in touch with family and friends face time, quizzes etc.
