Welcome to the EYFS section of our school website. Here you will find out about some of the exciting things we do in Reception, but don't forget to check out our Nursery page too.

Our vision

We believe that children learn best through practical, hands-on experiences and interactions with their environment, peers and adults. Learning should be fun, engaging and suitably challenging. We believe that every child is unique and should be valued, allowing them the opportunity to develop and learn in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our aims:
  • We will give each child a happy, positive and fun start to their school life in which they can establish solid foundations on which to expand and foster a deep love of learning.

  • We will offer each child a broad range of new and exciting experiences and give them the opportunity to consolidate, explore and test them out along with their own, individual experiences.

  • We will provide a broad and balanced curriculum that will enable each child to develop personally, socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically, creatively and intellectually to their full potential.

  • We will encourage children to develop independence within a loving, secure and friendly atmosphere.

  • We will support children in building relationships through the development of social skills.

  • We will help each child to recognise their own strengths and achievements through experiencing success and developing the confidence to work towards personal goals.

The Sealife Centre
As our current topic is about pirates, we visited the Sealife Centre at Tynemouth to find out lots of interesting facts. We had a workshop about rock pools and touched a starfish. We watched the seal show, and hunted for different sea creatures.
Whatever Next?
Using the story of 'Whatever Next'. by Jill Murphy the children have explored the topic of space. Children have made pastel planets, mixed colours to paint planets, made rocket packs, and compared what Baby Bear saw when he landed on Earth compared to what he saw on the moon. The children have had 6 independent challenges to complete: order numbered rockets to 20, design and make a rocket or space buggy, design and make an alien spaceship, find the heaviest moon rock, write a list of food to take to the moon, and write a story about an alien.
Halloween craft afternoon
Parents joined us for a spooktacular arts and crafts afternoon. We made treat bags, masks, shape monsters, spooky spiders and pumpkins. Some children even tried bobbing for apples! A big thank you to the families who were able to join us.
Special visitors
The children in Reception had a visit from the fire service. We heard a story about how to keep safe and then looked at how fire officers keep safe by the special clothes that they wear when fighting fires. After that we we able to sit inside a fire engine and even more exciting was squirting the hose!
