Welcome to the EYFS section of our school website. Here you will find out about some of the exciting things we do in Reception, but don't forget to check out our Nursery page too.

Our vision

We believe that children learn best through practical, hands-on experiences and interactions with their environment, peers and adults. Learning should be fun, engaging and suitably challenging. We believe that every child is unique and should be valued, allowing them the opportunity to develop and learn in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our aims:
  • We will give each child a happy, positive and fun start to their school life in which they can establish solid foundations on which to expand and foster a deep love of learning.

  • We will offer each child a broad range of new and exciting experiences and give them the opportunity to consolidate, explore and test them out along with their own, individual experiences.

  • We will provide a broad and balanced curriculum that will enable each child to develop personally, socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically, creatively and intellectually to their full potential.

  • We will encourage children to develop independence within a loving, secure and friendly atmosphere.

  • We will support children in building relationships through the development of social skills.

  • We will help each child to recognise their own strengths and achievements through experiencing success and developing the confidence to work towards personal goals.

Halloween craft afternoon
Parents joined us for a spooktacular arts and crafts afternoon. We made treat bags, masks, shape monsters, spooky spiders and pumpkins. Some children even tried bobbing for apples! A big thank you to the families who were able to join us.
Special visitors
The children in Reception had a visit from the fire service. We heard a story about how to keep safe and then looked at how fire officers keep safe by the special clothes that they wear when fighting fires. After that we we able to sit inside a fire engine and even more exciting was squirting the hose!
Developing our garden.
We helped Mr Metcalfe fill the planting areas with the soil. We worked very hard to shovel the soil into the wheelbarrow then pushed it into the garden where we worked as a team to tip the soil into the flower beds. Once that was done we spread out the soil to make it nice and flat ready for planting.
Planting flowers, seeds and vegetables
After filling the flowerbeds with soil we had to get reading for planting. The first things we planted were bulbs which will flower next spring. After that we planted primroses, hyacinths and heather. Next we planted some seeds. Last we we planted potatoes, carrots, sprouts, beetroot and cabbage - what a feast! Keep watching for our next post when they start to grow.
